3 Mistakes Real Estate Agents Make on Their Website (And How to Fix Them)

If you’re a real estate agent, your website is either helping you win clients or quietly costing you listings every single day. After auditing over 150 agent websites, we’ve seen the same problems come up again and again.

Here are the three most common mistakes and exactly how you can fix them.

or just read on.

1. Using Your Brokerage’s Website Instead of Your Own Brand

Let’s say you’re a Keller Williams agent and you use the brokerage’s template site. The first thing visitors see is a giant Keller Williams logo and a KW.com link at the top.

As a consumer, my natural thought is, “Okay, this is a Keller Williams agent. Let me look for the top producer in this office.”

When you lead with your company’s brand, you invite comparison.

How to Fix It:

Make sure your personal branding is front and center.
When someone lands on your website, they should see your name and your logo like John Smith Homes or Maria Garcia Real Estate.

Yes, you still need to include your brokerage’s information, but you can place it further down the page. The first impression should be you, not your company.

2. No Clear Lead Funnel

People only visit a real estate website for two reasons:

  1. They’re thinking about buying.
  2. They’re thinking about selling.

Yet so many agent websites just let visitors wander around without any clear next step.

How to Fix It:
As soon as someone arrives, guide them into a lead funnel:

  • Greet them with your name and photo so they know they’re in the right place.
  • Ask them clearly: “Are you looking to buy or sell?”
  • If they click “Buy,” take them to a simple page outlining your buying process in three steps (no overwhelming detail).
  • At the bottom of that page, offer something valuable in exchange for their email, like:
“Download the 5 Most Common Home Buying Mistakes (and How to Avoid Them).”
  • If they click “Sell,” send them to a home valuation tool or a page offering a free seller’s guide or checklist.

When you do this, you start capturing leads 24/7 - even while you sleep.

3. Asking for Contact Info Without Offering Value

Most agent websites have a generic contact form that says something like “Work With Us” or “Connect Today.” Then they ask visitors to fill out their name, phone, email, and agree to all sorts of policies.

Ask yourself - when was the last time you filled out a form like that for no reason?

How to Fix It:
Instead of just asking for information, give people a reason to share their email.

Think about what would be genuinely helpful to someone considering a move:

  • A Home Buyer’s Guide
  • A Seller’s Checklist for [Your City]
  • A Market Trends Report

And keep the form simple. Start by just asking for an email address. It’s like dating - start slow. Once you’ve earned trust by giving something of value, you can build the relationship from there.
